Our purpose is to dismantle the power that the concept of race holds in our life and our world, and to erase the concept of race itself so that it will never again be relevant in our lives or our world. The belief that some people are inherently inferior because of their ancestry is deeply offensive, and we reject it as scientifically inaccurate and morally repugnant. We have also all been complicit in the process of spreading, implementing, and reproducing the concept of race - and we have all been cheated of our dignity and our humanity as a result. The concept of race continues to rob some individuals and groups of their land, homes, cultures, loved ones, work, freedom, self-respect, other resources, and/or lives - while gaslighting them that this theft was and is somehow their fault. The concept of race also continues to provide these stolen resources to other individuals and groups while gaslighting them that they are somehow entitled to this transfer.
The Sojourners of Truth create spaces where we become deeply connected and work through some of the deep pain that we carry because of the concept of race. We recognize that creating and being in such spaces is challenging, complicated, and layered. We understand that such spaces call for us to be open and vulnerable with each other even as we recognize that doing so requires us to lower some of the defenses that we believe will keep us safe. We make space for this difficult and uncomfortable work in support of transformational changes in our lives and our world.
